I have an orp pullet with a broken leg. It's broke above the knee, below the hip. I believe in humans it's called the femur. Not sure if it's the same for chickens. But anyway. I can feel the bone move like it's splintered. I put a splint on it and have her in a box with food in front of her so she don't have to move much. What I'm wondering is if it does heal will she be able to hold up the weight of the roo when breeding next year when I add her to the orp pen. My roo is huge and I don't wnat her to have to suffer later getting bred or maybe another break from his weight. She is just a couple months old right now not even big enough for the pot.

Any ideas?

she should be fine in a sling make sure the weight is off her I would bring her into a other area where theres no chickens so she can rest I would bring my chickens inside so I could watch it make sure her feet don't touch the floor or at least not enough to stand up she should heal and if your putting her in more than 6 months she should be fine with the rooster and should grow but if your thinking on putting her in in less than 6 months I would wait so she fully heals and I have never had my chicken brake their leg so I would say not under 6 months so the rooster doesn't put pressure on her back and add pressure to where the fracture was to brake it again.

She didn't make it. There must have been other injuries that I didn't see.
