Egg Song! Glorious Egg Song!

2/16 so far today.
One of my Marans started laying at 16 1/2 weeks. At 18 weeks two Marans are laying and two others, not sure if Buff Orpington, Black Australorp, or RIR.

Lucky you! I'm still waiting after 21 weeks. What are some of the signs to look for when they become ready?

They will squat when you attempt to pet them. They will also go in and out of the nesting boxes. And they will get vocal.

Yep, they squat, check out the nesting boxes, get vocal and very friendly. Also of course, red (well, darker pink anyway) faces, combs, (and wattles, if they have them).
I've read that it's better for the egg production to start later rather than earlier. One reason mine started so early might be because I kept them on starter/grower until 15 weeks, not knowing I was supposed to switch to grower after 10 weeks. Nothing I read said that, until I read a manufacturer's recommendation. :(

Okay, great I'll look for signs, thank you.
