Pekin bantam thread!

Glad this thread is lively again!

I've got 5 of my own pekin eggs, in the incubator at the moment, on day 16 so not too long to wait now! Also have 8 eggs waiting to go in once they're hatched:)
Great to hear i'm also on day 16 with my eggs unfortunately there not pekins though :) I cant wait to get my new pekins next week ! :)
How much did you pay for your pekins? Im only asking as i have been searching everywhere for some good priced ones and the cheapest i can get in the area are £35 for a trio . do you think thats a good price?

That's great! This is my first time raising chicks this way so very exciting.

Well I got all my 8 pekins at my local auction, in 3 different groups so paid varying prices for them.

My lavender trio only cost £10 (which I think was just lucky since they were placed away from the other bantams). But the two cuckoo hens I bought cost £22 and the three chocolate pullets cost £25 sooo really I think it depends on what you are willing to pay, because other pekins there went for £50+ ( and two black mottled hens went for £110) which I personally wouldn't pay.

I'd definitely be happy to pay £35 for a trio if they were healthy and I liked the way they looked!

Ok so i went to see the place i'm buying my pekins from and i decided to get two lovely wheaton hens but i haven't made my mind up which rooster to get :/ He had one black, one lavender , one crele and three gold partridge. Unfortunately no wheaton rooster. Icant decide on which one to choose for my girls. I dont plan on showing them so mixing colours is fine but which rooster do you think would create the nicest colour mixes? :)

I know these arent pekins but two out of four of my eggs hatched 1 light sussex and 1 mixed bantam i call fuzzybutt as its bum feathers are very long haha here they are:

Here's them deciding who sleeps next to there substitute mother haha :

The black one is the bantam which i'm guessing is going to be cuckoo coloured due to the markings:

They're gorgeous!

My Pekin and silkie eggs are wriggling in their eggs at the moment so not long to wait now but can't wait to see their little faces :) I think only 6 of the 8 that made it to lockdown are likely to hatch but we'll see :)

Also have another 20 Pekin eggs waiting to go in once this lot have hatched.

I love Pekins :) wish I could get more!!

And maybe someone can tell me, this is Cho, she was sold to me as a pekin but it was apparent as soon as I took her out of the box that she's not, thoughts on breed? A cross maybe? She's so tiny but she's the alpha hen
