Our Gas Company SUCKS (Rant)

Whats wrong with propane? You can get natural gas in the valley but it would be hard to drill all the way down threw these mountains to supply it up here.

For me personally I don't like the ugly tank, and hate having to monitor usage and schedule refills, nothing against it as a heating source... And around me if you miss a refill and the tank goes dry they charge $100 to 'inspect for leaks' before they will refill so it can be rude if you don't pay attention and let the tank run out...

BTW I have natural gas at my house, and even in my coop, but for some reason who ever owned the house previous never ran a line out to the garage/office nor the heated inground pool, instead they run off propane...

I have never had to even think about if I need to order gas, or if I used too much and may run out, and here N.G. is much cheaper.
Price was an issue this year for the first time so we put in a wood heater.

The other is a non issue. We check it just before it gets cold as that is when you get the best price. We check it again when any big blizzards are being forecast. With a big tank its a non issue. If you start getting low you get a rotten egg smell just as your heater lights up. Its just enough to notice an well before you run out.

Sounds like you have a crappy gas company without any competition... You can dig a hole an put those tanks under ground. Its required in some places.

Wow, some of you guys have awful stories. I'm glad we never have to deal with propane, except for small tanks every so often for the grill, which we can buy ourselves

There is competition but not a lot as most places have NG in the area so there isn't a demand, the leak test is mandatory on a drain under law and they all charge about the same for the test... As for burial that would require purchasing an underground tank and paying to have it buried, around here that will run about $3000 for the burial and about $2500 for a 1000lb tank, or about $5,500 total, that is a big chunk of money to hide something... And that $5500 would go a long way in paying the existing NG (or even propane) bill, several years worth in fact...

I fully understand that in some areas propane is common and the norm, but not in my area, even most of the trailer parks around here have NG service, it's generally just the real rural farms that don't have NG service...

I love 1 mile from gas, before my family bought where they did some of the neighbors they didn't want to sign up for gas so they didn't run a line up the main road. to run it up to where we live is too pricy to even think about running it up here by ourselves and too many between us and the line has propane to think about trying to go together to get it up to where we live.
