So THIS guy is growing out in our breeding pen...

We bred a standard blue Sumatra back on one of his blue daughters (out of a black hen), hoping for some splash chicks. We got this rooster instead - very interesting bronzing! I was hoping to create some new colors on the Sumatra frame, and lemon blue would be a fun way to go - is that what I'm seeing here?

I'm probably going to keep him around to breed some other blue hens to see what we get, but any ideas? I don't know much about the original blue rooster and black hen, as I only bought them from another breeder a year ago, and he had only black and blue stock. Perhaps we've just uncovered a recessive trait in the blue roo?

Finally got pics of mama hen... Last year I thought she was just an ugly blue pullet, but maybe she is dun? This is the pullet out of a black hen and the blue male.

In the first photo, the black hen on the right is her mum

She can't be dun if she came from a blue to black mating. She is a blue. When you breed blue to black you get blue and black offspring. Blue to blue breeding makes blue, black, and splash offspring.
