Angry farmer is angry.

I ordered chicks and ducklings from McMurray hatchery. Chicks arrived three days ago and are doing fantastic, but I still haven't gotten the ducks.

They were packaged and shipped from California on July 7th, today is the 9th, and the stupid post office is staffed with disgruntled idiots who like to take their misery out on you. It's a good thing I live in the Pacific Northwest and nobody knows that "Bless your heart" and "With all due respect" are insults, because the woman I got on the phone yesterday...well...bless her heart.

Anyway, my chicks were just set on my doorstep when I called them and told them that I would come pick them up. Thankfully they are all OK and I happened to be home because I live smack dab in the middle of suburbia where there are a billion cats and dogs roaming around. So I called them AGAIN yesterday to tell them to hold the ducklings.

Called this morning, and was told that the mail carrier had already gotten them!

And I confirmed that they had my note on record to hold the package for me to pick them up!!!!

Those poor ducklings are probably seriously stressed and thirsty from being crammed in a shipping box since Monday and today is Wednesday at 4pm (they deliver late in the day here), and right now they are riding all over town somewhere with the postman since this morning in that situation because some people can't do their blasted jobs correctly!

I'm not worried about the money or replacements, I'm worried about the birds's welfare at this point.

I HATE the USPS.

Sadly yours isn't the only story like that - hope the ducks will be okay.

ps love your avatar, I have the Chicken pot pi t-shirt - nobody out here is "getting " it.

Ok, the ducks are finally here! Arrived at 4:30pm, and nobody is languishing. They were very, VERY hungry and thirsty though, and the second I dipped their beaks and showed them the food, they went to town on it.

The DP's (Dual-Purpose) chicks are all, "***? Who do these big-nosed flatfoots think they are eating OUR food?" I stood by and watched to make sure they played nice, and they are sorting out their hierarchy, but otherwise are being good about the pecking.

I'll get cute duckling pics later for everybody, but right now they need some uninterrupted rest, food, and drink so I'm going to let them have some peace for a few hours.

I feel much more relieved now, and now I can get on with other pressing projects I've had to keep putting off this week because I've had to wait around for poultry delivery.

And wouldn't ya know? Right smack dab on top of the box it says "HOLD FOR CUSTOMER PICKUP."

*SMH*

P.S. Thank you, Drumstick Diva! I'm going to get one of those shirts. I ordered the Chicken Pot Pi shirt that has a cannabis leaf on it instead of a flower pot, but I didn't think some folks here would be happy about that for my icon...so I went with the "G" rated version. :)

I think they have a school to teach the USPS workers how to be brain dead. I have a bad postal carrier too. what I want to do with most of the postal workers I have come across (at least the ones who have worked there for years, the good ones seem to leave soon) would earn me a lifetime and a half ban here.

GOT MY CHICKS IN THE MAIL TODAY. HAD A GREAT EXPERIENCE WITH OUR POSTMASTER. GLAD THINGS WORKED OUT FOR YOU. I LIVE IN A SMALL COMMUNITY, SO THAT COULD BE THE DIFFERENCE. WAS WORRIED ABOUT CHICK SAFETY MYSELF BECAUSE THE TRACKING NUMBER DID NOT WORK

I'm glad that they're okay!

USPS is known for losing or damaging many packages, alive or not. I can't tell you how many packages of ours they've lost or damaged. And the sad thing is that it was some good products. UPS is a good delivery service, from our experience. :)

I've always been really pleased with the USPS... until I ordered hatching eggs. There is now a box of rotten eggs sitting in a sort facility somewhere in Arkansas. I waited the required 30 days for it to be considered 'lost' and when I called they said I needed to contact the shipper and have the shipper file the claim (and then what, refund me?). SO frustrating because *I* paid for the shipping and *I* paid for the added insurance on the package. Their reasoning was because it never made it out of the origination state (what does that have to do with anything?)

Anyone else ever have to deal with filing an insurance claim with USPS?
