I made this hatch-a-long just because I am really obsessed with Serama right now and thought I would see if there are others hatching Serama who want to share about their hatches and obsess along with me!

I just had a broody hatch 7 chicks and I have a Serama trio that I have collected some eggs from and am going to test them out in the incubator. I would like to order some really nice eggs but thought I should try with my own eggs first. I set 11 eggs... 21 days for this batch will be August 1st. I am thinking about building a separate hatcher so I can do some staggered hatching.

I have been curious about Seramas for awhile now too. There isn't much info out there for those of us who have not "seen them in person" yet. Good luck with the hatches.

Thanks, I'm a little nervous about the bunch in the incubator, but it will be fun to see how they do : )

Instead of mail ordering eggs you might considering going up to Washougal to see Pamela. It's not a far drive from Portland. She has nice seramas and a bunch of other breeds. I picked up 9 eggs and it looks like 6 are for sure developing, possibly 7. It's $3 a serama egg but she gives you extras so its more like $2. She will incubate them for a few dollars more. .I'm kind of obsessed with my seramas right now but I only have five hens and a roo and most are new layers. It looks like fertility is finally going up yay! I have a few of my own in the incubator with pamela's andso far the y are all developing. I just have to figure out how to prevent my broody from stealing all the new laid eggs! If you end up selling chicks, please let me know and I will buy some from you since I'm out in Damascus! I have yet to get any chicks but I am hopeful of some soon. I mail ordered 20 serama eggs but none hatched :( Hope this round is better!

I am obsessed with Seramas too : ) I got my last 8 eggs from Pamela and my broody hatched 7! One was clear. I have a trio of Seramas and I was doing a test hatch of her eggs and all put one have quit! I really don't know why but I am hoping it is not my incubator. I just hatched some ducks and peachicks so I think the bator is okay. This hen was broody when I got her but then laid 10 or so eggs and then went broody again. Maybe the eggs are quitting because of her nutrition? I don't know how long she was broody before I got her. She is sitting on one egg and I have only seen her get off the nest once though I am hoping she gets off everyday.
Anyway, I couldn't help myself and ordered some eggs from Castle Delight near Corvallis. Where did you order yours from? Now I am worried about my incubator. I thought I might see if I can borrow another so I will not have all my eggs in one basket... if you know what I mean. What kind of incubator are you using? I hope you have good luck this time!

I think I figured out what is up with my incubator... and hopefully fixed it! I think I found some inexpensive eggs to make sure it is back on track before I get my new Serama eggs. I put the last good Serama egg under my broody so she has 2 to hatch now! All this juggling is a little ridiculous but hopefully it will all work out in the end : )

I trying my second batch of Seramas, first try I got 2/12 to hatch, I think they are both pullets. Very cute, but i need more! I need to hatch at least a pair! So here I go again. Shipping is so rough on those little eggs! Tomorrow is day 7 for me.

I am glad you hatched a couple! I hope this batch does well for you. I am sure you'll get a roo this time... just not too many! How many eggs this time? Just wondering what incubator are you using and what temp /humidity are you at? I apparently can't help this need to gather information from everyone hatching Seramas ; )

I was hanging out with my chicks earlier and realized that a couple of them are definitely looking frizzled. They are pretty cute. I think it will be a couple more weeks before I can tell who's a roo.

I so want to hatch a frizzle! I have a smooth feathered one and one booted. They were from Castle Delight eggs. I have an Rcom 20 incubator keeping this batch of 20 eggs at 99.5 & 35% humidity, last time I think my humidity was too high. This time my eggs are from Arizona, they sat in the PO over the weekend while we were having a heatwave so I am real worried if they are ok. I candle tonight!

Oh, I just noticed you are in Oregon too! High humidity did in my first hatch and then I tried dry incubation... much better results : ) Humidity was still 30 to 40% ! That was not with Seramas though. I hope your eggs are okay too... heatwaves suck all the way around in my opinion. Let us know how they are doing! You have more self restraint than me to wait till day 7 to candle. I am going to try to candle less often... maybe. I am going to start another test hatch with some eggs someone is giving me. I think I will have time to hatch them before my Castle Delight eggs come... just want to make sure everything is working again. It is too bad I lost so many eggs from my hen... she is frizzled too... I have to remember there will be more in the future! She has two eggs that should hatch around the 8th.
