Serama Hatch-A-Long!!

Pics
Oh no, I'm sorry your hatch wiped! D: I did have the one malposition. In the future when the turner turns off, I think I will turn the eggs fat end up to try and prevent that from happening again, if I can. I also had trouble seeing the pips because of the condensation from the humidity, might make it easier to see what is going on. I might have known to assist the poor crossbeak if I could have seen them, they were so badly cross beaked I woild have had to euthanise them but it would have been a more humane death than struggling in an egg until they die.

I really like the mini adv. My biggest complaint would be that it doesn't fit that many eggs, to be honest! I figured "I won't want big batches anyway" but now I see things like Jerry Scherx auctioning 30 eggs at a time or being sent those extras on the dozen y'pay for. I want a second one already, ha!

Thank You to everyone for the wonderfully warm welcome !!!

@Skink ...
...Your babies are so precious !!! I can't wait until I can post some pictures of my little ones! And no, I'm not going to let them out with my existing flock of chickens because they free-range all day and I don't think that's a good idea because of these guy's small size. They'd be a hors'dovers for the first hungry hawk that flew over, not to mention the fact that I'd have to string a whole bunch of new fencing up just to keep them on my property. Do they make fencing that small, or is it just called 'plywood' when the holes become invisible...lol !!!
Anyway, I'm most definitely going to put them outside for periods of time, but the winters here are way too cold and the summers way too hot, so I guess 'house chicken central' is what I'll become!

@darkbluespace ...
...so glad to hear about someone else who had a successful hatch under a broody !!!

@collegegardener ...
...Congrats !!! Let us know what you find after you candle!

Thanks again everyone for the friendly welcome!

Until next chat...

I have 6 eggs to lockdown tomorrow... wish me luck! 5 shipped and one of my own. Air cells look better than the last ones so I am hopeful!

Wishing you luck @darkbluespace!!
Candled on Saturday. All but 4 seemed to be developing. However I'm not entirely sure so I'm going to leave them in a bit longer to be sure. I feel like I still have a lot of research to do. I've been having a hard time keeping the humidity levels within range lately so I've been a bit on edge. Very nervous for day 14 candle, but still very excited.

Thanks! Sounds like your eggs are doing well. I would more keep an eye on air cell than humidity numbers. Have you seen the chart that shows what air cells should look like on days 7, 14 and 18? It is okay if humidity goes up and down as it has an accumulative effect, not like temp.

Hi Everybody !!!

Going to do my 7 day candling tonight !!! Wish me luck!
I always seem to have doubts about what I'm looking at when candling this early.
Any hints, tricks or tips to help me feel more confidant about what I'm seeing?
Heck, I'll even give consideration to old wive's tales with these little guys, I want them to hatch so badly!
Thanks in advance for any and all help!

Hello I'm new to Serama chickens but not to chickens or ducks for that matter. I got my 4 eggs in the mail yesterday. The little eyelets are in the incubator now. I have them in the carton they were shipped in round end pointed up. Is this a good idea? I am doing my research on these sweet little babies. I can't wait for them to hatch.

I think that by day 7 you can usually see what is developing and what isn't, but sometimes the shells are dark enough that it is hard to tell. I wouldn't take any out so soon even if they do look clear. I have 6 eggs close to yours and I thought 3 of them were clear, but I candled tonight and one of those clear eggs is developing. It seems far behind with super tiny veins and a tiny embryo!

Sounds good so far! So exciting, keep us updated!
