I used additional lighting the past few winters. This year, I had started using the light again about a month ago. Just over a week ago, however, there was a major kerfuffle in the coop that caused the light to come off its hook and smash on the ground. I got lucky as far as fire goes (there was none, thank god!) and decided I'd see how things go without the additional light. So far, so good - I'm still getting between 3 and 6 eggs a day! My 2 adult hens are a marans and an australorp/ameraucana cross; the 5 pullets (who just started laying over the past month, one has yet to start) are their offspring with either an australorp or marans father.
