Flocked

Well since we lost 7 birds on Friday the 13th to some kind of predator. We decided to get some more and do a coop upgrade at the same time. This first shot is of the door with mechanical drill opener.

Here's our new nest boxes.

This corner will soon have a sink. For now its the transfer pump in a bucket run from the thousand gallon rain tank outside.

Here is a shot of the back window. Its got a computer fan hooked up to the solar panels. If you squint you can see it in the top.

This is a shot of the roost pole made out of a cedar post we had out back.

And for the finalie....the coup stache.

Welcome to BYC! Sorry about the loss of your birds. I would recommend running hardware cloth (not chicken wire) over the window (you might already be planning this), to protect the coop whenever you have the window open for ventilation. Otherwise, your coop is looking very secure. Good luck with your next flock.
We ran hardware cloth over the windows and screwed it down. I don;t think it was up in these pics yet. We had something try to dig in last night but luckily I had dug a trench on the interior and put hog wire down in it then screwed it down to the wall.

Very good! And you've already seen your predator proofing pay off. It saves a lot of chickens (and tears).)

Boy, you are a real handy person to have around. Maybe you could put up some strands of electric fencing around your coop, so you can hear the predators screaming instead of the poor chickens. They deserve it. Welcome to BYC. Hope things keep getting better and better for you.
