Good afternoon! I am a brand new chick mama and this is our first attempt at chickens, so I'm sure I'll be on here A LOT! We ordered 16 babies and they arrived last week. We are doing everything by the book, but so far we've lost two of them. Does anyone know what the typical chick loss ratio is? I know that it can vary greatly, but I just need to be reassured that what we're experiencing is relatively normal.

Good luck with your poultry raising adventures, and I hope you find everything you need to know. Don't forget to take a look at BYC's very useful learning center (If you haven't already)! The learning center as well as the forum should answer your questions! There is always something new to learn! Glad to have you here! See you around with the flock.
I heard that the ratio is about 1:10 from hatching day to 2 weeks. I depends on the care, health, and other stuff too.

Best of luck! I am also new here! We picked up 7 chicks last Wednesday evening- they hatched that morning- and so far, so good- fingers crossed! They all seem healthy, happy, full bellies, and warm! :) Every evening when I get home, I check on them and every morning I check on them too- just to make sure everyone made it through the night LOL

Mom,ma lost two but still has 30 chicks and yes I helped her after she hatched 13 chicks I picked up the rest of the egg's and put them in the incubator as she just had too much to do .....
