What breed/gender is this?

I'm pretty sure it is a gold star, but not sure. I'm also pretty sure it is a girl, but not entirely sure. I'll put pictures on as soon as I can, but I don't have pics now. She is maybe 6 months old, but no eggs yet. She also makes a "Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr" sound, and opens her mouth like she wants to crow. I looked at pictures, and she still looks like a red star hen, not a cockerel.

Unfortunately, there is no way at all to even begin answer this based on what information you have - you will need to go ahead and take/post some photos. Did the bird come from a hatchery/retail store or a private seller? Hatchery/retail/knowledgeable breeder increases the chances of a true sex-linked bird, random private flock has a higher chance of being a barnyard mix that happens to be colored similar to a sex-linked bird.
