We have 26 chickens of several different varieties. They have just started laying eggs. They all lay them in the same spot. We collected the first batch and they moved to a different spot. How do we get them to lay the eggs and allow us to collect?

Are your birds free ranging? If so, do you have an enclosed coop/run in which you could confine them for a stretch of time? Do you have nest boxes available to them within that enclosure?

Yes, they have free range of the yard around the house and they have coop with 10 clean fresh nesting bins. They perch on branches at night.

I get my girls used to the coop by placing fake eggs in the boxes.. I have a die hard Buff Orpington that just started laying a few weeks ago, she insist on hiding her eggs from me (or so she thinks she does) now that the 20+ pullets are laying in the nesting boxes I took out the fake eggs and placed them in an area I wouldn't mind allowing the buff to try and brood them and bad-a-bing she started laying her egg in there ...She is pretty young, 6 months but heck, I'll give her a whirl if she wants... If it doesn't work I always have the trusty incubator.
