So we Just got three hens and a rooster randomly given to us! I'm so excited! They are already layers so I am anxiously hurrying to make my coop! It's gonna be awesome:)

Welcome to BYC and congratulations on your new layers! Make sure to make your coop predator proof. That means using hardware cloth, instead of chicken wire, as there are just too many predators that can either tear through chicken wire, or pass through the openings in the mesh. What kind of chickens did you get?
 
Roosters can handle 10 hens, you'll need several more girls in your flock to prevent him from overbreeding and injuring some. If you just want eggs you don't need a rooster for that. However, if you want fertile eggs that can be hatched that's when you need a rooster.

Yes we plan to get more hens! They just offered us those at the time :) we plan to have eggs to eat and then around Easter the people who gave them to us said they will help us with the incubator to have chicks! I have a lot to learn before then lol!! Loving this site and reading everything possible to learn learn learn!
