Hi everybody! I'm from WV and new to all this.
I made fun of my friends for having 30+ chickens, ducks, turkey's roaming around. My mom and I were at the feed store at Easter. Well, chics are cute. I have a barn. Bought two. All of a sudden I go from no chickens to 15, picking up 2 more today. I have a barred rock pullet, a buff orphington pullet, a silver laced brahma, 3 leghorns, 1 maran, 4 mixed run babies, 1 polish pullet, 1 silkie cross pullet, 1 full silkie pullet, and 1 young mixed roo. What the heck?! Getting another buff orphington pullet and a buff brahma today. I need a big easy to build coop. Currently the 5 grown hens (leghorns, maran and brahma) all free range at my barn, the young ones are caged together at the barn, and the babies are caged under lights in my house. Oh my. Need a coop, need a coop! I want something big enough to walk around in and sit with my girls. Maybe a double run style to seperate some as they get older. Ideas?

chicken math at its finest. Weclome to the flock. Glad yo joined us and we are here to help!

If I were you, I'd search the coop section for large coops, pick one you like to model after, and then build two of those so that they would mirror each other and share a wall and one side of the run, with a door in both the coop and the run that could be opened or closed to quickly create separate areas if needed. Or heck, account for chicken math, and make a row house coop.

*Edit* Oh, and if your barn has an unused outer wall, you could use that as the back wall for your coop.

Sounds like you are thoroughly addicted! You have been given lots of links to some ideas on the coops. Good luck building yours and welcome to our flock!

Thanks for the welcomes! I said I was picking up two today. Well... There was a lavender Andalusian hen there too. So I got that and another buff orphington and a buff brahma. 18 now. Really gotta raid my hubbies garage and scrounge up some coop materials now! I have 11 in a horse stall with a run made out the side. The lavender is being a biddy so she's running free at the barn right now LOL

Hi and welcome!

Loved your intro and sense of humor! I giggled through your whole post because I can relate! I realized I was becoming a crazy chicken lady too when I found myself up at 2:00 am on the my pet chicken website - just looking at chickens...not that I was going to buy or anything...yeah right! lol!

The BYC coop section is fantastic. Put on a pot of coffee and just start clicking. There's every kind of coop imaginable in there - once you find what you like, copy it and just start building!

Enjoy your new flock and don't worry about the chicken math - you're in GOOD company on this site, lol!!
