Just cleaned the chicken coop the other day :)

I have 4 nesting boxes (sometimes a few chickens sleep in them lol).

this is the inside of the coop- on the left is a roost and food/water bins go there, on the right are the laying boxes.

this is the outside of the coop and what it looks like, there are even windows to look into the coop. They were hesitant to go into the newly cleaned coop but Buffy the buff orphington was first to look around followed by lily the light brahma.

they haven't messed it up too much since I've cleaned it. I changed all the bedding in there and put fresh hay in the nests. They are all loving it. :)

Looks Great

and the fluffybutt shot is sweet. Having chickens is one of the best ideas for my family. Even my DH is happy I got chickens. You might like adding a Wyandotte.

chickens are amazing pets! Mine are pets and getting eggs are a bonus. Right now
I have six- 3 mutts (nothing bad about being a mutt), a buff orphington, light brahma, and golden comet. I'll think about the Wyandotte, but I just ordered 6 chicks and they ship august 4th. Belgian D'Uccle,Sussex, silkie, barred rock, cream legbar, and an Easter egger are coming. I might pick up a jersey giant at the store too (they don't have the best selection). I was thinking possibly a welsummer too. :)

Thank you backyardflock, but I am set right now with six chickens two Wyandottes, two Australorps, and two light Brahmas. Since I live in the city zone I am allowed to have six chickens max, no roosters and the coop must be 20 feet from the home and neighbors home. So I feel lucky to meet all the requirements, because my neighbors think I am nuts for having chickens.

I am happy with my chickens, easy to take care of, they are sweet birds and funny to watch. If we ever move out of this place I would like to have a few more birds and of course a bigger coop. The Belgian D'Uccle would be one I would like some day. I live in Northern California and it can get nasty hot here. My Light Brahmas have trouble with the heat, so I keep a close eye on them. Are the Belgian tolerant of the heat or are they better for colder climate?
I couldn't agree with you more, the chickens are our pets first, the eggs will be an added bonus, when ours start to lay. They are only 17 weeks old right now and I am enjoying them and am working to make their coop a better place.

I hate to say this because its so crony, I really like them all. The Wyandottes were shy when they were small, but now they are super friendly and jump on my shoulder. the Australorps funny with antics and they try to take charge, but the light Brahmas are not impressed. I am soo happy to have the chickens. They gave me happiness in my life when I needed it.

Hey, nothing wrong with loving all the chickens! I do love all mine as well but the ones I mentioned really stand out as friendly. I'm happy my cockerel is friendly, and the alpha hen is higher in the pecking order so he doesn't even crow, which is amazing!

And btw I am super excited because one of our younger hens layed their first egg and it was tinted green! The father was an Easter egger so there was a chance of colored eggs. Here is a pic but idk if u can see the tint.
