Im trying to broaden our reach for the petition. Im not sure if signing would do any good if your not from my town however I know forms are great for showing up in google searches so Im more or less just trying to direct people where to go if they google anything about our laws.

Starting September 15th the city of Indianola is going to crack down on people currently owning chickens in city. At the city council meeting they said it would be too much work to change the city ordinances to allow people to keep chickens in town. We along with other families in town that own chickens are trying to get enough support to show the council it's important to us. This might not be the best place for this but we are fighting hard to keep our families pets/ organic egg supply. If you could look at and sign our petition we would be beyond thrilled. Thank you!!

Petition Background (Preamble):

The City of Indianola is discussing rewriting Ordinance 55.05 to read, "It is unlawful for a person to keep livestock within the City."

Currently reads - "It is unlawful for a person to keep livestock within the City except by written consent of the Council or except in compliance with the City's zoning regulations."
Petition:

We, the undersigned, call on the City Council to rewrite Ordinance 55.05 to allow poultry to be kept within City Limits with the following regulations:

1. Allowed in residential and agricultural zoning classifications.

2. Birds must be kept in an enclosure or fenced area at all times. Birds shall be secured within a coop during non-daylight hours.

3. No roosters over 4 months old.

4. Not more than twelve (12) of any one or any combination of poultry, pigeons or other fowl shall be kept by any person or persons on any parcel of land less than one acre in area.

Have you heard any more news on this? We are looking to buy a home in Indianola, but we currently have chickens and do not want to move and not be able to keep them. We currently live in Des Moines.
Thanks!

Indianola refuses to change the ordinance we personally have chosen to move along with another family who we were heading this fight with. They refuse to even hold a public hearing about it. They want some 2000 signatures supporting it before they will even entertain the thought. They think this isn't keeping people from moving to indianola and that having chickens would basically drove people away. One counsil person was in support with 5 only worried about keeping their chair on the board. it has been a giant waste of the 4+ months of speaking at every city cousil meeting. Nothing has changed and if anything else it's gotten worse because it was a don't ask don't tell situation that turned into them seeking out owners of birds and threading fines if they weren't removed. They even are trying to control livestock ownership up to 5 miles from city limits.

Keep fighting them Dont let tell you what you can and can't do I under stand not having roosters cuz thay crow in the morning but tell thay lower the price of eggs every body should have a few
