Hello! Is there anywhere I can purchase duck eggs that will hatch the day I get them without me doing the incubation? I am specifically interested in East Indies and Runners. I would also be happy with day old chicks of both breeds but having trouble finding them online. I am in the central Florida area if anybody knows someone local who has them... Also what are your thoughts on having these breeds together? I also have call ducks. Thanks for your help I'm (obviously) new at this.

Eggs being incubated shouldn't be removed from an incubator especially during hatching time, so they may be difficult to find. Day old ducklings will be much easier.

Ok. That's what I thought. I just ordered 3 East Indies that will be delivered on Wed. Can't wait to meet my new ducklings!

Did you order them from a hatchery that will ship them to you? If so which one? I am interested in getting 2 Cayuga ducks and I don't know which hatchery to trust.

ALso, if anyone close to Morgantown WV has 2 Cayuga ducks that are hens I am interested in getting 2 that are around 3 or 4 month old.

I love BYC and this duck forum, without all of you I would not have known what to do with my 4 wonderful ducks.

I also have a Male Pekin who is beautiful and you can hold him and pet him and when he wants down his just taps you with his beak. I have to give him away to a really good home because I have to many drakes. So If anyone is interested please let me know.

Thanks Everyone!!!

I'm gonna butt in and ask some duck questions.
I currently have 2 female pekins. I'm looking to get a male and maybe a few other ducks as well. A little variety.
Is there anything I need to be aware of? Breeds to stay away from?
Also, I am looking at possibly getting a rouen. I raised Call Ducks growing up, and i just want to be sure that the Rouens are flightless. (Sorry, that's probably a dumb question).
I am not looking to breed them. So any concerns related there aren't of concern. If they happen to breed... I don't know what I would do anyhow. I just want a male to round things out.

If you get a male, they WILL breed! :p Rouen and Pekins are totally able to procreate. I mean, I guess you don't need to allow them to sit on any fertilized eggs, but I know I wouldn't be able to resist the fluffy butts. <3

But they will get along, not fight or anything?!

Also, i've read that pekins don't nest well. Again, not my main goal. But if i am being honest with myself, that time will come, eventually... haha

Ehh...the male will get pretty violent with the girls during mating season. I've seen females dead from over-mating, and often see girls waddling around filthy and bald-necked from the abuse! If you don't want to breed them, then keeping your flock an all-girls club seems like the better option. But that's just my opinion. I guess you could separate them in different pens during nesting season, but that's your call.

As for being bad nesters, I honestly have no idea. Any veteran pekin owners can answer that?

I was also unsure of which hatchery to trust. Plus none of the main ones I could find online had baby East Indies. I ended up finding someone online who doesn't even have a website. I paid through pay pal and they are shipping them.

If you going to add a male i would highly suggest more females.. drakes are pretty intense and will totally change the dynamics of the flock. Rouens are flightless so are Pekin. I personally if you have no desire to breed would skip the drake, while i do like my drakes i do breed on occasion though, if i strictly wanted only pets i would stay with females.. drakes fight with each other and can be pesty to the girls at times.
