Lady Di a six year old Brahma, has had a tumor over her right eye for over a year now without any noticeable discomfort. Today, I saw she was scratching her eye, and upon close inspection, I saw it is swollen between her eye and her beak. I flushed her eye with saline eye drops, and it helped get rid of the bubbles. I massaged the swollen area to see if there was any pus, but none came out.

Any advice on what I should do for her?

Thanks! I do believe you've nailed it! I've started her on amoxicillin since it's all I have on hand. I also put some eye antibiotic in her eye for good measure.

She has none of the other symptoms of coryza, so I think we can rule that out.

However, my flock has just recently been diagnosed as being infected by lymphoid leucosis. The rooster, a Brahma was infected a year ago in his egg by another Brahma hen. He developed acute organ tumors, and a grossly enlarged liver. I euthanized him and had a necropsy performed, thus the diagnosis.

I wonder if this could be a symptom of leucosis.

Her condition appears to be unchanged this morning. I gave her a couple drops of a steroid that I had left over from cataract surgery, thinking it might alleviate some of the swelling and pain. I'll continue with the amoxycillin and see how it goes.

She's my oldest girl, and one of my very first chicks, and I really want to see her recover.

I am pleased to report that Lady Di is responding to her treatment. The swelling on her face has gone down considerably. She's been on amoxicillin, and I've also been giving her eye drops from my left over cataract surgery meds. One is a steroid, and the other is an antibiotic.

Of course, I can't be certain which of the above remedies is curing her, but perhaps it's all three in combination. Whooda thunk cataract eye drops would come in handy for a chicken?

Glad to hear that she's getting better!
