Hi everyone,

First time raising turkeys and they have been penned until two days ago, when I left them out overnight. No problem, all four were accounted for the next morning. Okay, I (wrongfully assumed) that they were safely roosting at night and all was good. Yesterday morning I observed all four coming down from their roost to start their morning forge. Got home from church and the duck on the pond was visibly upset about something. Walked down the hill and only saw three of my turkeys. I called for the other one and discovered feathers in the pasture. Upon further investigation I found half of the carcass buried beside the barn.

Everyone is back in the pen, and will stay in the pen unless I'm down there to supervise them. Also the 12 gauge is going down with me from now on!

Anyone have thoughts on what buries what is left for later?

Thanks.

Possible, both my neighbors have dogs and one I know has been on the property before, although I've never seen it down below where they are.

I believe I resolved my predator problem at least for the time being. I had not let my turkeys out since the attack a week ago. So yesterday while working on my barn I thought I would let them out seeing I was right there with them. Within ten to fifteen minutes a fox came out of the woods and sat in the drive watching me and them! Any way called the house and had my daughter bring backup (aka 12 gauge!). One shot of turkey load (how ironic :) ) and boom boom - what does the fox say? Nothing.... absolutely nothing.

That's most likely your predator then! Glad you got him. Though it is a bit sad as foxes are so lovely. But nothing is lovely when they're killing your livestock! I'd lose all apprehension if it were my precious flock being eaten!! Hopefully you can let your turkeys out for some fresh air and forage now

Thanks FH, I really don't enjoy killing anything, and he was pretty, but the fact he came out right after letting them out to forge... too likely it had been him the last time. I will still stay close for a while when I have them out.
