Which rooster should I keep?

Help me decide by 5 (EST) today!

I have 2 (accidental) roosters. They are 9-10 weeks old (red star sex links). There are 8 hens (2 silkies, 3 bantams and 2 comets all 8-9 weeks old)

The bigger rooster has started (trying) to crow, about 3 days ago. It's cute. The other one has not. The one who is crowing is most definitely the top bird. He does what I assume is normal chasing and pecking to show the others who is boss (though he still runs from one of the silkies which is hilarious). A few times now I go to the window to see whats going on because I hear a lady yelling and I find him on her grabbing on to her neck feathers (mating?!?! or trying? dumb thing)

The other (non crowing) rooster (same age as the other just a little smaller) just picks on the girls once in a while. Not much to say about him other then he's calmer (I assuming it's because he isn't the dominate one?)

I wasn't planning on keep either since I didn't plan on having any at all, but now I want to keep one and try it out.

Someone is coming for one of them today shortly after 5. Which one should I keep!??!

I would keep the less dominant one You would then have less of a chance of him attacking you. IMHO and personal experience.

I would keep the dominant one.

My reasoning is natural selection goes to the strongest animal in most species. Survival of the fittest and all that. But then I also pick the alpha pup out of a litter for myself. I would want the stronger genes/traits for my young'uns.

Depends in what you want him for, at this age its a bit to early to tell if they will grow up acting like gentlemen or not. If you need a rooster to protect his girls then the dominant one would be your choice. That being said the submissive one won't likely show his true colors till the older ones gone, he could be really nice or a little s**t. If you think the submissive one is likely to stay nice and calm then he would be your option. That it go with which one you like more

It was such a hard decision, so I let the guy coming to take one choose which on he wanted. He picked Phil, the dominant one.

I think it was a good choice. The flock today is doing well without Phil and Steve is stepping unto the plate. The cat went on the back deck today and Steve immediately warned the ladies. Good boy!

I sure miss Phil though

It's ok, and understandable to miss him. That's the problem when you have pets and have to choose between them. It's good that Steve is stepping up though

I find the beta male to be a great leader if the opportunity arises. We had one, thought it was the dominate pullet. Always following the cockerel around.

We got rid if the cockerel due to aggression towards children, and the pullet began to crow. He made the best Roo and would challenge red tail hawks if the landed in trees near the flock... never backed down. He was gentle with the hens and the humans.

I think you will be pleasantly surprised by your boy.
