Sick chicken- reading a lot about crop problems. Advice appreciated!

Hi, We lost one of our girls yesterday after noticing 12 hours before hand that she was sitting in the corner of the coop asleep and didn't come out for food. She was 20 months old and had had bumblefoot 3 months ago that I thought we successfully treated. She had a very swollen crop when I found her but also swollen and red around her butt. Wish I had have noticed she wasn't well earlier as I think we could have helped her. so from reading here she had a blockage in her crop as it was huge but perhaps she had an impacted egg as well. she hadn't started laying again after molting and the others all had. (we live in Australia). would the impacted egg cause the problem in her crop?
My kids are devastated as am I that we lost her. I hadn't been paying as much attention to the chooks as normal in the last 2 weekls as we just had our 4th child. We love our girls so much so I want to prepare myself better for the next time we encounter a problem.

I can't give you an answer as to whether the impacted crop and and/or egg binding had to do with her problems, but just wanted to say how very sorry I am for your loss....
