Hey everyone!

My d'uccles have recently grown back their feathers after a moult. Their foot feathers are super long now and keep picking up dirt and other random pieces of stuff.

If I was to clip them how far should I as not to hurt them?

Thanks.

I don't bother and they do fine. If I had massive mud issues it might be different. After the dirt dries it will fall off, unless things are really awful, IMO. Mary
I don't do anything at the moment either, I was just wondering if there was a possible clipping method incase they caused discomfort. Thanks anyway!

I was actually wondering the same thing, so glad this group is here! My cochins are almost 18 weeks and have newer bigger leg and foot feathering, I think they're called"boots" .....

Seems the feet get snagged up(when trying to use the ladder, pop door, roost etc. They fall, flop, flail and trip onto faces) and sure do pick up more messy poop and debris in the garden. I've seen a few broken feathers as well and think theyre from the big girls feet. They arent the most graceful anyway and its sure taking awhile to learn to navigate with them!

I did wonder if some trimmed feet up a bit? Like how I now have 3 shih tzu who I keep in convenient, easy to maintain, clean and ( user friendly for them!) short "puppy cut"haircut?

Yes! I'd like them short enough so they didn't snag on twigs and such and collect poop.
