The hen in the back (sorry, this is the only photo I have right now) is our first girl that started laying. Her first egg was a very small white egg. She skipped a day and now for three days in a row we have found a light brown egg. It would seem that if a different hen layed the white egg than the one laying the browns, we would be finding white eggs every day, too. Any help would be appreciated. This is a very exciting time! Thanks in advance!

It is more likely you have two layers - it is not at all unusual for a bird to lay their first egg, skip a day or to (or more), lay again, etc -- it can take a few weeks for their system to get up and running and have the hang of regular production schedules. All of your birds look about right for being at the point of lay so it may even be that more than one is responsible for the daily brown egg as they. Even with more than one bird laying it can be a bit before your first multiple egg day to come together.
To really get an idea of what you have there you will need to go out and take a better picture (or two or three) of the bird so that she can be better seen.

Here is a video of my wife "chatting" with the hens. There's a better view of her here.

Thanks for the info...much appreciated. I just posted a reply that has a link to a youtube video of the hens. There's definitely a better view of them if you're interested in looking. Thanks again.
