I have two 12 weekers that I would like an opinion on gender and breed. #1 started growing a comb and wattles around 8-9 weeks. #2 started around 10 weeks. Now they look pretty similar, in my opinion, but not sure the gender. I am new at this, obviously, so would appreciate your thoughts.

I purchased these 2 as day-old chicks that were labeled as Delawares. Do you agree?

#1 is in the back and #2 is in the front:

Thanks for your help. I am keeping my fingers and toes crossed for 2 pullets!

Can you share how you decided that #1 is a roo and #2 is a pullet?

Thanks!

I agree that they are Delawares because of the mainly white feathers on the body, and black feathers at the hackle and tail, and also the yellow shanks; hard to tell for sure about gender because of the mainly lighter plumage.

#1 has a bit more comb color and wattlage than #2.......but at 12 weeks I doubt that small difference denotes cockerel, and I don't know Delewares.

These are my first chickens. At what age will I know for sure what sex they are? Do I have to wait til they lay eggs or crow? Wish there was a better way to sex chickens other than bit sex-linked ones!! From reading this site, it is obvious the chicken sexers at the hatcheries are not very accurate...
