I am new to this…. I have waited and this morning I finally got to see what was going on in those eggs!!! I have many of my eggs with veins and dark spot (embryo), with some moving…… I only candled half my eggs, I will do the other half later this evening. My question is, I have 2 eggs so far that I see no vein growth, no shadows…..light just passes thru the egg with no problem. Should I go ahead and discard these eggs now?
 
Well…. I only candled half of my eggs this morning and did the other half this evening. I though 3 eggs were non fertile cause I could see straight thru them…..I was right about 2 of the eggs, the 3rd one had an embryo in it and it MOVED!! I want to cry now! I set 24 eggs, so I still have plenty to worry about….. I have a few eggs that are on my watch list cause they are light tan colored, but very hard to see thru, very porse looking.

Also, I had an egg that was hard to tell top from bottom, both ends looked the same. I saw + movement in it today but could not see an air cell. I recandled it this evening and the air cell has been at the bottom!! They are day 8! Is my chick going to be ok??? I marked the air cell and put it to the top now……Please tell me it will be alright!!

I always wait until day 10-14 before tossing clear eggs, Sometimes my eyes play tricks on me and I tossed viable eggs my first time too...

just because its clear doesn't mean it will spoil and explode... There is always a tell tale smell, pretty easy to find the bad egg (if you have one)

No way to tell on the upside down egg... Just let it be and as long as you see movement its alive :)
 
Thank you American Mom! I have read MANY different things about when to candle, humidity, ect. Next time I will wait longer. Im just glad these eggs were from a friends farm and the 2 dozen only cost me $6…..they will be mutt chicks, but Im happy with that!

Im not one that usually wishes days away, but I cant wait!!!! I will candle again on Sunday (day 10) and then on days 14 and 18.

Sounds like your system is working out so keep up the good work,,, by the way did you mark the air sacks with a pencil so you can chart each egg's growth ....

I numbered and marked the air cell on each egg. I have a chart with notes on each egg, so I know which ones to keep an eye on….. Im a little OCD when it comes to things like this :)
