I went to Agway for chick food. Thats it...just chick food. Easy right? NOPE....they just got in an order of chicks this morning.
So I ended up going home with
2 splash silkies
1 white silkie
and 1 Japanese Bantam or something?> I dont know the girl got me kind of confused????

This puts me at 16 birds total including twelve different breeds! ( 3 adult hens, the rest varying ages of pre-maturity ) ..This all started with finding a lost chicken on the side of the road 7 years ago.. lol...

Ha! Completely understand. I bought 5 chicks from the feed store. I was only going to get three. Husband had his eyebrow lifted. Then, after watching my lone cochin, I went back and bought two more cochins, but didn't say anything to DH. After a day or so, he came out of the room where I had the brooder and said, "It's a miracle! One week old chicks that can reproduce with LIVE young!" I had been caught. He just laughed. I told him I'd explain what "Chicken Math" was to him one day soon, and thanked him for loving his crazy chicken lady!

Im confused as to what the japanese bantam is exactly...I asked if it was going to be a silky type she said yes but then she went off on a tangent and I got compeletely lost????

I know nothing about silkies or Japanese Bantams, so I'm afraid I'm not much help there - I'm trying two new breeds this year - cochins and buff brahmas. I also have a RIR chick and an Ameraucana chick. All are supposed to be pullets, but I'm pretty sure one of the buffs is a rooster. Which is fine - Brahmas are supposed to be docile, and I know he couldn't be meaner than Eli, my former rooster who was an Ameraucana! We'll have to wait and see to know for sure.

I have cochins and I love them they are adorable big fluffs...anyone here know anything about what a 'regular' 'japanese bantam' is? is it a type of silky>

does anyone know what the salesgirl might have meant when she said 'japanese bantam' ?? she made it sounds like it was going to be a type of silky but then she got me confused..can anyone enlighten me? the chick is dark brown with a blondish colored face and looks like a little finch lol.

I have looked at them before, I think them a pretty bird. A Black Japanese Bantam chicken hen is shown in the photograph. They come in several colors or types but I think this is the one I see the most of. They have a short back and high tails. I think they carry themselves very well. You most likely will like it.

Best to you and your new birds,

RJ
