My Cornish X experiment

I had a beautiful white fluffy jersey giant that I named baby Huey because that's how she looked as a chick. Bigger than the others. I was going to breed her with a CX rooster in the summer but her addiction to dog food did her in. She went too close to the dog while I was at church yesterday and she was killed. Her daughter I hatched last year I will use instead and one of the sgd hens also.

Any updates on the cx and jersey giant mix? Howed it go I'm really interested in that mix I was planning on doing a cx jg and rir mix hoping to get a super bird... I'm going with show quality jerseys though not hatchery trying to get a true giant egg layer

Yeah there is.

Bert died, but I have several babies of his from before he died. I crossed him with rainbows. The babies are huge and doing well. They seem to be healthy and everything. I am hoping to breed the babies to each other next spring. They look like the perfect meat chicken to me.

I do not have any Jersey Giants, never had any. I know there are a couple people on Jessica's thread that have them and are hoping to breed that way.

I would like to get some, but space is limited.

As much as I would like to raise all my meat chicks, with the costs of CX's so low, I am not sure it is worth the hassle to raise them and keep parents. I paid $1.12 apiece this year for mine.

im just curious because of the cx growth rate and the jersey giants size it would be massive fast growing birds 20 pound bird in two-three birds would possibly replace the cx as the standard meat bird just a thought

Oh I agree!

The CX's are fast and work well for factory farms, but are not the best eating when raised that way.

The perfect bird is still out there and the Jersey Giant could be what is missed.

Do you go to Jessica's thread?

It has become the place to discuss CX's and crosses lately.

I hope to get some Jersey Giants next year, BUT it depends on the space available.
