Do Silkies like the rain?

Two days ago we had a torrential downpour of rain. My Cream Legbar hurried to take shelter in the coop but my Silkies stayed put right in the open and got soaked through.

Is this normal behaviour for Silkies? Should I put them away myself next time?

I was advised recently that silkies can have trouble with eye sight as their head fluff can get matted around their eyes so maybe they are struggling to get out of the rain by themselves? my three follow my other hens when it rains and get under cover. be careful they dont get too wet and if they do they manage to get dry as being damp can make them really unwell

I haven't actually seen my chickens go to into the coop together yet, I'll have to sit out one night to see if they follow my other chicken in. They have no problems seeing in normal conditions, I've seen them go into the coop individually but you're probably right, if their head fluff is sodden they'll have problems seeing. Thanks for the advice :)
 
If you can pop a heat lamp into their coop and just turn it on when it's really wet that will tempt them inside to warm up. It will also come in handy for winter nights

That's a good idea. Are there portable or perhaps solar powered ones available as we have no electricity running to the coop.
 
solar panel ones that iv found are good for light but dont get very warm. to be honest Iv not looked for non power supply lights as I talked my dad into running electric down the garden so I could have a light down there and plug the radio in when I clean them out lol
 
My male Silkie is a big baby and runs in the coop as soon as he feels a rain drop. However, my female Silkie and the rest of my chickens normally stay out to play in the rain.

Big silkie? that doesn't happen does it?! my two boys weren't much bigger than my three girl silkies! Just be careful with them getting to wet as its not good for chickens downy feathers to get soaked
 
All of my Silkies never go inside the coop when it rains! They just hang outside while its down pouring! I usually end up feeling so bad that I bring them inside and dry them off! :(
