Hatch along!!!

Out of the 40 eggs I pulled 18 of them last night. Mostly clear, 2 blood rings and one 4-day quitter. Sooooooo what's left is 8 Welsummers, 8 Cinnamon Queens and 6 Olive Eggers. Still hoping for 6-10 fem chicks for my layer coop.

All my eggs have hatched one has a little nub hanging out of his naval, and is really weak so no sure how he's going 2 do

I just put 16 eggs in our incubator yesterday, our first time hatching chicks. We actually have a broody hen who is sitting on 6 eggs that are due to hatch about Saturday (August 23), she was on 12 but only 6 came along and I candled them on day 17 and they were growing great, so now I'm just leaving her alone and letting her wait it out until the chicks come. She is a Partridge Rock, but I believe all the eggs are from our Red Sex Links and one from one of our White Leghorns - we only have 3 roosters and they are all bantams, two Old English Game Bantams and a Cochin Bantam, so can't wait to see what they look like! But the eggs we have in the incubator are a brown egg laying mixture we got - Golden Laced Wyondotte, Silver Laced Wyondotte, Speckled Sussex, Welsummer, New Hampshire Red and Black Australorp. We also added a VERY large egg that one of our hens laid, I know those double yolkers don't tend to do well but this egg is so large there 'might' be enough room for twins - so we put it in there and giving it a go. So September 10th would be about hatch day for those. Will be so cute to have some little chicks raised by their momma and some I can raise myself :)

Out of my 40 eggs set on the 10th I have now pulled 22 of them. Such is the perils of shipped eggs. A couple of blood rings and two early quitters, but the rest never got off the ground.

Worried that I might not get the complement number of layers I want (especially since more may be no-hatch eggs) I went to the local Trader Joe's and picked up a dozen 9-day old eggs which I will put in the incubator tomorrow. Thusly after the first group hatches on the 1st the second group will only be 10 days behind. At least with the TJ eggs I won't have such horrid looking air cells.

It looks like I'll have batches on the 1st and 11th.
