PLEASE help, my chick just ate a hair tie.

Thank you @16 paws and @Krissilpn !

I'm glad that my mistakes saved you and your chickens from that kind of stress! I'm very glad that our experience can benefit others who might have had the same problem. I wish I could've stayed with her, instead of leaving for a day or two, but maybe I just would have been obsessing for nothing. My little chicken continues to do well- I just hope it won't present a problem later on in her life :/

Thanks for all your help and support! I can't describe how comforting and inspiring it is to have people to talk to and ask for advice. I'm always learning!!
Cute picture!
I think she is going to do just fine and your right you would of been worrying way too much.

What a cutie! I would say she is out of the woods! Marie chickens are like kids for me. Yesterday the heat index was110 here in northest florida. I sat out side, put a box fan out to increase air flow, put ice in their water every 4 hours and worried.. but not enough to let it ruin my day. But watched them like a mother hen..lol. I love learning and never intend to stop :)

I am getting some new baby chick in a few days. I was just wanting to know if it would be ok to put my brooder in my mini barn or would it be to hot and humid.

I got 2 new babies a couple of weeks ago. It is so hot I just put them in their own area and they have done great, It is one of the prefab chicken areas that I bought and decided it way way to small, before I built my own larger area for the girls. No need for heat source, only a box fan when we had the heat index at 107 During the day. I wouldn't put them in an inclosed space with out ventilation, in this heat you will have roasted babies. Of course I'm talking Florida weather.

Marie, I wish I would have read your post 5 minutes earlier. My girls favorite treat is raw rolled oasts mixed with plain yogurt. They demolish it almost before I get to take a picture! They look so funny with the yogurt sticking to their beaks..but they wipe off the extra in the grass then eat the yogurt covered grass lol.. spoilt birds!

Hello, I was just reading through and saw your post, about 3-4 weeks ago my hen ate a hair tie as well! I was letting them play with it and they'd run around the garden squabbling thinking it was a worm. Then she just ate it whole, I was amazed! She's been acting perfectly normal since then and recently started laying which is good :thumbsup unfortunately I haven't seen any long black poos but not to worry, I hope your chicken is okay!
