Peafowl Business Questions

I haven't tried places like craigslist although I am not very persistent at selling my peafowl. I will say though that early this year I had my yearling peacock Smarty listed on my for sale page on my site. I didn't think my website was getting many views and I didn't think it was coming up in many searches, but a lady emailed me about Smarty wanting to buy him! Her sister just happened to be going on a week long trip to the beach, so on the day she was leaving the beach she stopped by and picked up Smarty for her sister.

Then I got lucky that AugeredIn on here lives so close by and he was interested in buying all of my peafowl eggs this year. I don't ship eggs I am focusing on selling them locally. I haven't gotten into shipping anything yet, but I may consider shipping peafowl feathers. Dylansmom's comment about being able to pay for her peafowl by selling their feathers got me motivated to try and get into selling their feathers. I have sold some feathers before, but I would like to try and sell feathers more often.

You might have some sort of local ad magazine. Here we have the Shopper. It has a section for livestock which is normally where people put their peafowl and chicken ads. You could advertise in something like that. There is also a for sale area here on BYC, but they removed my ad for that when I was 19. They said I was too young to be posting my own ads for peafowl even though I was about to turn 20.

Also there are probably nearby livestock sales you can take your birds to. I think some places have a livestock sale every weekend or once a month...I haven't tried one of those places either but they can be good.

For advertising on your site, check out other peafowl websites and get ideas from their for sale pages. One thing I get annoyed with is websites that don't list the prices and you have to call them just for the price.

Here is my for sale page. I am working on getting photos of feathers for sale for this page:

Oh hey and by the way I see you chose a name for your peafowl farm! I saw your pictures on the Peafowl Image Database.

Thank you! I'm thinking on just doing local for the birds but feathers I will ship to people. Eggs and chicks I would just sell to people local or people I know. I do have a fly fishing store that's interested but a deal hasn't been struck yet. I want a $1 for each feather. Everybody else on here says they sell IB feathers at that price. Yep! Vetos Peafowl Farm. I think no one would try to steal that name. Not to mention that way I don't need to change it if my family moves so it's just my last name.

With the V in Veto you could make the V in the logo into a butterfly peacock feather.

Dylansmom mentioned she sold some peafowl feathers at the renaissance fair. You could go to local events like that and sell feathers. The last time I sold feathers I had a booth at the flea market. I was trying to sell glass jewelry but all we sold were peacock feathers.

Okay I couldn't resist making some logos. You don't have to use them or make anything like them, but I just liked the idea I had. This shows two versions.

Well I'm 16 so I can't do that yet sadly. On my website I'm making I state that my feathers are cruelty free and explained that the feathers weren't plucked nor was the bird killed to get the feathers. I've heard of some people that pay more for cruelty free feathers. If I do get as many peafowl as I hope I do I might be able to get over 480 feathers if they are just as good as this year with Colbolt. Right now I have 122 feathers that are sale quality. 92 eye feathers. I'm still collecting though he isn't done molting. That fly fishing store thought I wouldn't get 100 eye feathers and I'm almost there. $1 for each is the smallest deal I will take. I hope this peafowl business goes really well.

I will probably use one of my ideas but those logos are cool, and creative! I like them! I was thinking of having the name centered and then an IB, BS, and a White peacock flying of perched. IB, BS, and White are my top three varieties that I will be breeding. Haven't really decided though I have so many ideas flowing through my head for the logo. Name and details though have been mostly taken care of. I plan on selling chicks, feathers, and hatching eggs if somebody else wishes to hatch chicks out. I will list the prices on my website for each variety. How much do you guys charge for your chicks?

I have a friend in SD that designs t-shirts so I might get a deal if I get t-shirts designed for my business. When I get all of my ideas for logos drawn I will post the pics along with the chicks.
