New to raising chickens, found the first egg in the run and another in the roosting box. I had marked my calendar that egg production should begin 8-16-14 and first egg was 8-13-14.

It is one of my RIRs, I saw her in the box again this afternoon while checking up on my girls.

I felt like a child, it was a great feeling to see the egg, all the work and effort to make them happy finally starting to pay back. Just happy and had to let ya'll know.

FYI... these were breakfast for me this morning.

Congratulations! How old are they? You hit the nail on the head with the date! You should play the" Guess the date" on BYC!

Thank you!

I got them the middle of March, I estimated that they were about 1 week old. I started marking their age in weeks on my calendar and wrote "Eggs?" on 8-16 which put them at 22 weeks old. The RIRs are 22 weeks, the BR is 21 weeks and the GLWs are 18-19 weeks. I got the GLWs at about 6 weeks old in May.

I have olive eggers and easter eggers that are 20wks old. I am hoping next month, I will have all kinds of colored eggs!! Hope so anyways.

So far only the one RIR is producing. But, yesterday I found an egg that had no shell, just the membrane and its contents. Not from the one chick because her daily was in the box as usual. So, I'm guessing another is about to start laying. Yay!

The RIR did deposit her egg in a different box yesterday. Is that normal? I thought they picked a box and stuck to it.

They don't always use the same nests, especially when just starting and if you use fake eggs/golf balls.

I found a first egg today too,on the roost board from one of my EE's I think.......
This has barely a shell, caught it just as another pullet was starting to have it for breakfast.
not sure why the image is not showing....
