North Carolina - Page 11

The Mountain State Fair? No, I wanted to go though. I had my parents visiting and they really didn't want to take any road trips while here. I have an Astralorp EE cross. I do see Astralorps and Buff Orpingtons in the Iwanna adds all the time though.

<--Points to avatar* My Rooster, Igor, made this year's chicks quite mixed up breed-wise. I just hope the new hens lay as well as their Mom.

Iwanna for the Asheville area? I see them, too and need to find out if they are breeders or just unloading extra hatchery stock.  I bet your cross is cool looking.

It's hard to tell. Sometimes you get lucky. Once in a while we go to Cagle's Live Stock Auctions in Waynesville on Saturdays, too. You don't get to see the parents there in most cases, but again, sometimes you get lucky. (Sometimes you also get really unlucky and people sometimes seem willing to pay a premium for anything that lays eggs.)

I'd run out and take a picture of Raven for you, but she's molting and not showing her best feathers. She's got a small amount of red peeking through near her muff, which is smaller than you would expect, but otherwise, she's Astralorp in every other way. She lays large pink-ish eggs. (And at brooding time puts them in every other hens nest so that all her babies are fostered. This year, she went broody and is raising two beautiful bantam chicks.)

neferset,
I went to Cagle's once to see what was going on, but didn't see any of the breeds I am interested in. I probably should  go more often-  when your Raven is prettied up again, show a picture, please!

I'd be happy to. I also want to get a picture of Igor beside Min-Igor for size reference, but they are molting too. There's a story behind the two of them that I'll post in Stories when they get their tail feathers back and I get a good picture.

You might want to visit Cagles again. The types of chickens vary from time to time. I know it's not all the same people every season. We were talking about going this weekend maybe. It depends. I've been a little sick this week. I have no idea what we would be interested in buying at this point, though.

I still have to finish my run, but might drop in just to check things out and maybe meet some people. Depends on the weather! Hope you feel better.

With all the rain and me recently being sick, we didn't get there this weekend. We did indoor type shopping instead. Everybody needs chicken feed. big_smile

She's getting there. She's also still filling out again from being broody for a couple of months (long story). If you look closely you can see a little red around her neck ruff in this picture.

This is one of her super mixed breed boys:

She has two more who look like Barred Rocks and two who look just large versions of our bantam BBRed.
