An old high school classmate of DHs just posted some pictures of the chicks she just got from a local guy and I fell for the turken chick she got and asked her where she got them and how much they cost her. The deal she got is great and I found the ad on CL for the guy she got them from. DH said it was ok for me to email the guy about them and we may be getting some Monday or Tuesday when DH is off again! He said in his ad that he has Ameracaunas so I questioned him on what color variety he has. If he says it's a mix or some color variety that true Ameracaunas can't come in then I will know they are EEs. The parent stock are on the premises too though so I should be able to figure out if they are true Ameracaunas or not. I have no problem with getting more EEs though either as long as they aren't chipmunk colored since I know how all those grow out to look. I am hoping that I can get a turken or 2 as well though. fl Yes they are funky looking but they are neat too. The plan is to use the box/coop that is in the chicken lot for an outdoor brooder for them. Does anyone know if this will be ok? We plan on locking it up. The only thing it is being used for right now is as a nest for one of our layers. They do have a nest box and hopefully being kicked out of the coop will make the RIR that is laying in there find the nest boxes. I'm just hoping there is a good selection still available when we get up there! fl

BTW tomorrow is my birthday!

ETA: He also has lakenvelders? Are those good chickens to get too? There are also mixed chicks. The guy is NPIP certified too so that is a good thing.

Bhep,  you wouldn't happen to have any decent breeder quality silkie roos? Splash or White or whatever? I'm still interested, but now I have a friend who wants one too. She' getting rid of her hatchery roos and want something to throw her some prettier babies. I'd have to drive him out to wilmington for her.

And I just had to say those chicks are doing AMAZING! I love them! So darn sweet and I guess because I checked on them constantly as they hatched, they are completely docile for me. Lets me pick them up and pet them and bring them treats, even mama lets me touch them. Though mama has been letting me do it for years since I always mess with her babies. I was even thinking of coming up to the WCA this weekend, but I don't know if I can until Saturday. I may have to help a friend out on Sunday because of the possible rain on Saturday and that will throw that off for me. We'll see. Didn't know if anyone else was going?

I am from Wilmington. Eventhouh I have not gotten any chickens yet... on order. I have been thinking of canceling my order of silkies to get more of a purebreed line of silkies. Would you mind sharing where you find your silkies in Wilmington?

I would be fine with more EEs as long as they were different colors that what we have, I have already decided there will be no more chipmunk colored EE chicks here. I don't know about the Ancona or Minorca breeds I will have to look them up. I just don't know how well chicks would integrate into our adult flock. My kids definately want chicks! My ODS asked if there was a chick in the first egg we got! I wish I could find some Marans so I could have some pretty chocolate eggs!

ETA: You could end up with NN EEs! I love that idea! " rel="http://files.backyardchickens.com/img/smilies/love.gif">love.gif

Well the Ancona is mottled white on black(white eggs), and my Minorca is buff (white eggs), the NNs are both a redish brown (I can only tell them apart by Ruby having redder head feathers, one lays pink tinted eggs and one lays brown), and my EEs are gold and black. Big Papa the roo has Colombian coloring. I have tried to figure out what we will get, but next week the first incubation of eggs from this coop will be hatching and it will be a surprise!

I'm not sure what variety of the Lakenvelders he has. I asked him about his Ameracaunas because I would love to have some pure Ameracaunas, but I'd be content with more EEs as long as they are different colors than what I have. Here is the link for the ad though http://winstonsalem.craigslist.org/grd/2903400453.html His prices are very reasonable and he is NPIP certified to boot. He is close to me too.

Lakenvelders are great free rangers. Very flightly breed, but if raised from chicks and messed with, they aint as bad. They lay white to light cream colored eggs and are a light breed bird so they can fly. Do you know what color he has?

silkies and (projects), sumatras, lakenvelders, frizzles, polish and (projects), sultans, buff orps, black sexlinks, turkeys, red golden pheasents, Peepers, dogs, cats, fish, horses, wild kids, and one very understanding DH, come on over for a visit to the crazy farm
