Picked up 2 leghorns and a polish (not sure if it is pure or a mix) today from our breeder. Now all I am waiting in is a couple Lakenvelders to hatch so I can get a couple of those too. I wasn't originally interested in them till I saw the parent stock. They are gorgeous birds! The funniest part is the breeder is actually related to me through marriage. He is married to a 2nd cousin of mine. He may be able to get ahold of some maran eggs to hatch out too. If he does I have already told him I want at least 2 of them.

On another note all 6 of our hens are laying now! D.gif I got 3 green eggs, a very pale blueish egg, and 2 brown eggs today. Now I just have to start selling eggs because there is no way I can go through 3 dozen eggs a week!

Is there anything special I need to know about selling eggs? Do I need a special permit or anything? I am just selling them as eating eggs.

Happily married since 2006. Mommy to 3 boys! Currently own 5 EEs, 2 RIR, 1 NN, 1 Frizzle, 2 Ameracaunas,  2 Cochins, 2 Leghorns, 1 Polish, 1 EE/Polish mix, 3 goats, a dwarf hamster, and a pitbull/boxer mix.

There's pipping happening here!  ya.gifThree of my eggs are pipped!  wee.gifI was hoping I'd have a couple broodies to take on some of the babies, but that's not happening.  idunno.gifTomorrow is rearrange chickens day!  The three week olds must move!  We shall see how many chicks I get out of 40 eggs that started out.

Meg and Chris, plus mastiffs Murphy, Jake and Reilly, and Great Dane Levi. Orpingtons, Welsummers, Ameraucanas, Barnevelders, Rosecomb Brown Leghorns, Cuckoo Marans, and a few turkeys, along with NZW rabbits, summer lambs or calves, and who knows what else.

Here's the NC Egg Law.  Scroll down to 106-245.15.

I don't think you need to do anything special, if you are selling to friends and family.

 well maybe I am wrong.

It is, I would rather sit outside with my ducks and chickens than go anywhere else.

Thank you. Though that was a bit confusing. So what I am understanding is that cartons must be labeled with our farm information. Right now we are using the cartons from TSC. I plan to make a label for the carton with our information on it.  Also what is the best way to clean the eggs? I have already been dating the eggs so we know when they were layed.

ETA: from the law "a producer marketing eggs of his own production shall be exempt from this section when such marketing occurs on the premises where the eggs are produced, processed, or when ungraded sales do not exceed 30 dozen per week." So according to this part I can sell eggs without grading them as long as I don't sell more than 30 dozen a week. Am I understanding that right? I will only be getting about 3 dozen eggs from our chickens a week so I doubt I get to selling 30 dozen eggs a week.

Does anyone else sell eggs? What is the best place to buy cartons from?
