My first and most likely only run of eggs is finally cooking away.  I love the sound of my Suro.  I have it in my bedroom and that low hum is very soothing to me.

I got these eggs last weekend at Chickenstock from Amy(westknoll).  I just flat out forgot about them till I noticed the carton under papers on my desk.  They were 1-3 days old when I got them, so an extra week shouldn't make a difference.  There are 12 nicely colored marans eggs and 6 wyandotte eggs.  Both Daisys(boff Orps) are broody and the long broody box/house is empty, so I will not have to raise these either.

Wild - I am so sorry to hear about your mother!!  You and your family will be in our prayers!!  Please keep us posted on her!!

Chicken update: lau.gif so I think the baby chicken is an offspring of "El Stupido" (my Lav Orp roo whom I call Timmy, but DH calls El Stupido).  This baby didn't follow mama outside, so it chirped  at the HWC at her, not able to figure out how to get to her.  I tried to go inside to "escort" it out, but sadly as soon as I got into the coop, mama rushes in and fluffs up.  I didn't want to stress her out or anything, so I figured she would lead it out...NOPE...she walks out after I leave and baby is STILL trying to figure how to get to her!!  LOL  lau.gif

I'm a SAHM happily married to the man of my dreams with two DD (another due 7/2013), 1 cat, 3 Marans, 1 BSL rooster (NoName), 1 Misc. Rooster (Tyrone); 5 Ducks (Cadbury and his girls), 2 misc. young chicks, 12 pullets, etc.

I have a favor to ask of you all if you don't mind.……. My mother is a breast cancer survivor of 8 years. But recently the doctors found lump in her left arm, the same side the cancer was on. The did a biopsy but it was inconclusive. So know she is having surgey next week to remove the lumps and detemine once and for all whether or not its cancer.
Can I please ask you all to pray for her? THANK YOU

I'll be sure to for you! I don't know if you would be interested, but i'm catholic, and for us there is a specific saint dedicated to cancer patients if you want to pray to him. his name is St.Peregrine.

Here is a link to his novena, and a small bio.

I figure every little bit helps. I believe there is great power in prayer.

Welcome to the forum and this thread! You'll meet a lot of awesome people here who have great advice, info, and hugs! it really is a close knit community!

One of my presumed late hens just showed up a few minutes ago...I think she's actually gone broody and is sitting on a nest in the barn!  Surprise tp me today.  I'm glad your son took it so well.  It is hard to lose the critters for us, it must be worse for the kids.  Life lessons on the farm are always happening it seems like!

My family and I live on a small hobby farm in western North Carolina in Lincoln County. My wonderful husband married me in November of 2011 and I got a daughter out of the deal which not only made me a new wife but an instant mom. We have 2 dogs (Kaluha and Jake), 2 Tennessee Walkers (Rebel and Ginger), 2 Fainting goats (Charlie and Willy) and a growing flock of chickens and peafowl.

I have a question for those who own cochin's. We ordered a male and female partridge from a hatchery. Well one of the extra 4 they sent was another male partridge cochin, they put it on the packing slip. So when I look at the three I have one light brown one and two darker brown ones. In sexing them do the males tend to be darker?
