These are my first chickens, gifts from a daughter for Christmas. Once they started laying, it's rare to have a day without one egg from each hen. They come when I call them, stay close to the...

Yes.........
3 chocolate Muscovy
A pair of Magpies
White Crested duck
Runner duck
1 red gold pheasant
1 runner is hunched over....presumed wounded and 1 pheasant has a small wound on it's back. I will put some swat on the pheasant and move them to a dog crate. Figuring out lock ups for nighttime.
I first thought raccoon. Found a headless magpie ducks and the white crested bloody but intact. The rest are MIA and presumed dead. Feathers everywhere. I found 3 holes with paw prints...so I will assume fox.

oh Beth what an awuful way to wake up in the morning.

Beth, good luck on predator control.
I got most of the new birds into their respective new groups today. The smallest got moved to Juvenile Detention. I'll let all the young ones find their place for a couple days before I add in the adults that are being sorted. Soon I'll be totally organized. Scary thought!
Looks like my Royal Palm turkey has gone broody. I'm going to try dusting her nest down with Sevins and see if she can hatch a couple without the fire ants taking them when they pip.
Hope everyone is having a good day. I have to go get all dressed for the banquet now.

This new baby wanted to see what it was I had in my hand.
8 new little BO babies!
There is one that seems to be not quite as active as the others and doesn't seem to be 'fluffing', he's not wet but still kinda dried out stuff on him. They are all very sweet and will run and get in your hand and snuggle.
Next, to figure out girls and boys, LOL!

me, hubby, 4 dogs, 1 evil cat, 3 Ameracaunas and 8 Buff Orpingtons (my babies) , 4 grown kids, 8 grand kids, living the life in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina!

Beth - I am so sorry for your losses!! I do hope you figure out what it is that is attacking your flock!! I am offering mine and DH's services if you need help doing any kind of predator control (he'd kill for an excuse to have target practice)!! Also, he's good with mechanical things being an engineer, so if you need anything, even if it's just a lox for lugging things around, you let us know!! I'm sure your girls would love to have some "babysitting" while we work!!
Again, I am sorry for your loss!!
Chicken Question: I have 9 hens (3 that have been broody and hatched chicks) so out of the 6 that SHOULD be laying eggs...I am getting on average 2-3 eggs a day. Is there any reason why they might slow down their laying? I do not believe they are "old" as they are barely a year old. I did notice a few were burying their eggs in the boxes but even digging through the boxes, I only found 2 eggs tonight.
Just curious...didn't know if all the mamas were throwing the laying off or what was up.
On a side note, we ran around town today and I am SUPER excited to say that DD1 did NOT have an accident at all!!
I am really hoping she keeps up the good work (we even stopped putting diapers on for nap/bedtime - even if it means more laundry) especially since we have church tomorrow!! I suspect it was because she wanted to impress her daddy, but I'll take whatever I can get!! Have a great evening everyone...I'm off to enjoy some Root Beer floats and some Super Mario Brother's Wii time with the DH...lol
I'm a SAHM happily married to the man of my dreams with two DD (another due 7/2013), 1 cat, 3 Marans, 1 Misc. Rooster (Tyrone); 4 Ducks (Cadbury and his girls), 8 assorted pullets, 5 babies and MORE chicken math to come.

Wow just reading back through the posts about predator problems, I am so sorry for all the losses, that is just devastating! Hope everyone figures out what it is and gets it stopped. We have a 140 lb Great Pyr that is a super deterrent to most predators.
The bees are outside his 'compound' so I worry about bears but haven't seen any bear activity and no reports of any in the area yet this year

Well that surely sucks... I hope you can figure out what exactly is doing the killing and get it stopped... if it takes a bullet... so be it!

Well....locked up the remaining ducks & the geese. Some in coops, some in dog kennels and the geese in the feed shed. .... that should be a treat to clean every morning
One of the remaining runner ducks has wounds on her neck and chest. She escaped death, now hope she gets better and does not get an infection. The little pheasant has a small chunk taken out of her wing, I put Swat on it and she seems ok.
Leg traps & live traps are set. I need a gun !
