North Carolina - Page 1848

I put ice bottles in the runs yesterday and went out at one point to check and the little araucana (think is a roo) was laying with his back against it, bless his little heart.  Put baggies of ice water in front of the little fan in brooder pen and the babies were fighting for position in front of fan on ice bag, lol so cute but they quit panting when i did that.  I have ice bottles in every free spot in my freezer.

Hope all do well today!  Praying for all of you guys!  I too hope this doesn't last as long as they said!

I need some advice about these mid range babies that I have.  My 'older' chicks are 12 weeks old, these little araucanas are about 8-10 weeks old, much smaller than my RIRs (2 hens and a roo) or the araucana roo, I really need to put these litle ones in with the bigger ones, but want to avoid blood shed.  I have had the little ones in a modified brood box in the run for a week and a half now.  Any aggression that I have observed as met with a squirt in the face of the aggressor with a squirt bottle of water.  I think the little ones are 2 roos and pullet, they are getting too big for that little brood box, it has wire side panels, i was thinking about perhaps taking a panel out so that they can wander in and out, escape if a big one gets after them?  The bigger guys can't get in through that opening, but the little ones can duck down and get through.  I felt so bad last night the little guys were crying wanted to go in the house to roost, but i'm afraid to let them in with the bigger guys, but I feel so bad with them in that little box.

Well, gotta run take care of the little little babies, they are 2 weeks old and oh so cute!

All the birds look good this morning, and there's a bit of a breeze blowing right now.  We refilled all the water and sprayed the ground where we could this morning.  Ice at noon, I think.  When I get some bottles out of the freezer, I'll put more in.  Just didn't have room for as many as I wanted.

Hope all goes well with everyone today.

All is well here also this morning...   Same plan here...ice about noon time. All water was refreshed this morning.

I can't believe its already so hot!

We took off to pick blackberries for jam at 6:30 this morning. Luckily we were out of there and done before 8 am. Gave us time to pick corn here, tomatoes and greenbeans. Fed and watered the chickens fresh. In an hour when I goto work, hubby is going to flip on the sprinkler for them for an hour or 2, then let them dry out and flip it back on around 2:30 until I get off work. Seems to be working good.

I hope everyone's birds are doing well and there haven't been any tragedies!
