I just got back in.  There is a large line of strong storms coming down off the mountains and heading this way.  I watched 3 different storms pass us by today and got no rain.  We did get some cooler air off of them, but we need the rain.  Now it looks like we are going to get more then needed too quick.

I went out to make sure the small free standing house and long brooder house were braised well and that the PVC pen was staked down good.  Also covered the feed pans that got missed because they are under shelter.  A good windy rain and those can get wet too.

Glad to hear that most of you survived the heat wave with minimal to no losses!!  I am happy to say that we had no losses here (yet...more heat is on it's way I hear) and I was quite surprised to see my dark mammas out wandering the yard with their babies in tow at the HOTTEST part of the day.  I was outside for less than a minute to check on everyone and sweat was pouring down me...NASTY.  Most dust bathed under our deck...I kept the deck itself hosed down a little -since the chickens HATE being misted - to cool off the dirt below.

We were surprised this weekend with the stray cat that has been hanging around on and off...she brought us a kitten.  He/she was so cute and fluffy/soft.  It reminded me of my "old man" who just turned 14 this year and is still my favorite cat (sorry Snickers).  Well...we went to put the chickens up for the night Saturday and that one lone kitten multiplied to 4...the mama was moving them in the worst part of the day...I just don't get some animals...LOL.  Sunday morning before heading off for church she had brought over one more for a total of 5.  I think she is done, as she has been laying around nursing them and begging for food.  The last one she brought over is definitely the runt of the litter, but is rather uniquely marked.  3 of the kittens are this fluffy gray & white coloring, 1 is a tiger stripe (like mama) and the runt is actually half fluffy gray and half tiger stripe...they are all so cute...especially when they "spit" and hiss at the giant monster who just can't resist picking them up for a little human loving!!  (no worries, I always wash my hands and change my shoes before going back into the house - I am aware of cross contamination on all aspects).

Non-animal news: Yesterday was our FIRST successful day of potty training with a busy & full day.  DD1 was accident free ALL day and even told the workers (a select few) in the nursery when she needed to "bio" (her word for potty... apparently when I said bathroom, she came up with bio...lol).  celebrate.gif  I need to go grocery shopping today so we will see how it goes...no expectations, she's not even 2 yet, so I am not expecting anything, just hoping for the best!!

Have a wonderful day everyone...try to stay cool and I'm still hoping for the best for all of your birds/animals!!

Good Morning Everyone!

Lovely cool morning today, although I know the coolness won't last.  We're due for more thunderstorms today, but it's "only" supposed to hit 101.  A cool spell, eh?

The chickens and turkeys all seem happy this morning.  They are enjoying the cool morning, and aren't able to anticipate the change later today.

I've decided I'm moving into the Langdon's kitchen.  That's where I want to live.  Besides, I've seen pictures of the food that comes out of there.  That's all I need.

Got my practice piece done on my new loom, and have rewarped it for a proper project.  The weather is good for doing inside things.  I also need to get my bigger loom up for sale, but haven't done it yet.

Going to go get feed this morning before the rains, hopefully.

Have a great day everyone!

Well, i opened up the end and side of the brood box and let the mid-range chicks go out into the big coop last night.  This morning I refilled their food and put the feeder on the far side of the box and they figured out how to get back in the brood box.  So far no aggression from the bigger chickens, they are giving the little 'uns pretty wide girth.  I think that they think there is something about those strange chicks, whenever you get near them water squirts you in the face!  The neighbor that gave them to me kept insisting that they were araucana's and I thought perhaps EE's but not araucanas, well i was noticing this morning the the one I think is a hen is developing tufts, so maybe i owe neighbor an apology!

Boy did we have a storm last night!  Over 1 1/4 inches of rain, thunder, lightning, the yard that was yesterday crispy is now green and grew inches over night!  Probably be mowing this afternoon.  Went to the garden and pulled up the pea plants, cut some squash, got the last of the broccoli and pulled the plants.  Should have beans to can in a few days, whoo hoo.

Mary your floor is awesome!  Good job, We put hardwood in what was to be my craft room and it is a job, but it is so worth the effort.  Course it ended up costing me knee surgery, but it is lovely.

I hope this hellacious heat is over and no more animals are lost.

Gotta go fix fresh water, BBL!  Have a great day all!
