On a good note, my brahmas are laying some beautiful pink eggs. And today is the 1st time I'm letting the hens free range without supervision.

Sorry for your discomfort, withdrawal from pain meds can be bad in any degree.  Glad you are doing better though!

The 'Araucana/EE' 's that I was given never would play nice with my BO babies, so I set them loose to free range.

I have a question about chicks, I am gonna keep 4 of my BO hens, I want a BO rooster but the ones I have are siblings (possibly) to the hens.  Do I need to try to find a roo that I am sure is not related to my hens to have chicks next year?  I want my little flock to be self sustaining and so the plan is to hatch some eggs next spring, but I want them to be healthy and not sure about inbreeding of chickens. Any chicken geneticists out there?

Meredith, I was just catching up on the messages and read about how you got hurt.

Attention everyone: I have dropped off baby chicks at Meredith's place and that tree house is HIGH in the tree, I would guess about 15 or 20 feet.  She is like Batman!!  Even he gets hurt and has to stitch himself up sometimes.  And just like him, she got hurt helping others.

Your withdrawal symptoms should go away soon and I'll bet you'll feel ALOT better tomorrow.  I'm glad you're OK.

Tom

What do you guys think?  One super successful ninja predator, or a no-good guinea rustler?

Sounds like they went on walk about.  I have been told they can wonder miles and may or may not come back.  They are extremely hard to catch so I don't think the they got rustled.

Anyone looking for a barred rock rooster? He's 18 weeks old and becoming an aggressive pest. We're free ranging 5 hens + him, he doesn't seem to keep the hens safe, so i dont have any need for him. (if you plan on cooking him dont tell me). We're outside of middlesex (between raleigh & wilson).

Thanks,
Shanna

Good morning folks frow.gif

Hope everyone is having a good day

No WCA for me today......need to ride

today.......it is PT for me.......got to love

a PT that while it hurts it is something I

have always loved to do. wee.gif

We try to get roos that are not related to

the hens since you usually don't know if

the breeder you get the birds from has used

outside blood or not. I don't know how many

generations you can use the related stock

and not sure if there is any info on it but

just makes sense to us to try to get roos or

hens of different bloodlines.jumpy.gif
