hawk attack

As nasty as it is to have your flock threatened, they truly are beautiful creatures. Today when the guy was bashing around in our yard, I was at the same time admiring it's beauty and trying to chase it away form our chickens. That white color on your bird does seem like it would put it at an disadvantage...

My mum makes me laugh , she rings me and says " is that mongrel sea eagle still hanging around , why don't you shoot it ?" I tell her that in the first instance , I don't want to end up in the ' klink ' and in the second instance , he's just hungry and I love to watch him soar.
And last but not least, I'm not a bogan. :lau

That is a beautiful bird. I bet they are amazing in flight.

Quote: And I wouldn't shoot a sea eagle either. They are spectacular looking birds. And not that common. Reindeer keepers used to hunt eagles, because they take down the younglings, until a new approach was taken. For every nesting eagle they find, they are assumed to loose a certain amount of reindeer. This calculated amount is slightly higher than what they would actually take. They are monetarily compensated according to that, and this has lead to the reindeer keepers protecting the eagles, since it's worth their while.

Beansprout56,
How is your patient doing?
Sorry to report that she died in my arms Tuesday evening. : (. But, on a brighter note, all this information will be very helpful in the future! Hope I don't need it though! I saw what appeared to be a hawk flying/hovering in the sky around our property today...appeared to be looking for "new victims"! Ours have been kept under cover since the attack but they hate not being able to free range!
