We bought some baby chicks in march. Intended to have only girls, but our BLRW turned out to be a cockerel. We thought we'd keep him a while and see how things worked out, but now that he's crowing and getting all his hormones in we've decided to let him go. With 2 small children at home he's making us a bit nervous. He is just starting to mount the hens, he's a bit clumsy but not rough. Does some crowing, mostly in the morning hours. Calls the girls for treats and gives warning calls when things fly over head. Herds them into the coop in the evening.

Always fed organic feed (Scratch And Peck) and free ranges our property from dawn until dusk.

He's a tough bugger to catch while free ranging, but as soon as he's in my arms he hunkers down and relaxes. Will occasionally eat out of my hand (snatch and run), but usually hangs back a couple of feet and watches the girls eat (and I throw him some tid-bits).
