problems hatching

I am using a still air incubator; one has an egg turner, then the last three days I moved them to another incubator, the same kind to hatch. I have kept the temp @ 99.5 degrees, but do not know what the humidity is. How can I tell that?

Just wondering, why do you move them? Maybe the 2nd incubator is the issue. Or maybe the thermometer in inaccurate.

Some like to move them to another incubator or hatcher so they can put more eggs in the already set up incubator without having to clean etc. Some like to do it too because the separate hatcher can sometimes have more room for chicks when they hatch. I think it's more for when you are constantly hatching batch after batch.

Hi nanakiker just read your post I think your temp for the still air incubator has been on the low side it needs to be 101- 102f and measured at the top of the eggs. Also still air do sometimes have hot and cold spots inside the incubator. As for humidity you need a hygrometer this measures in % I got mine for my first incubator from a pet shop it was a lizard/reptile one. You need 45% day 1-18 and at least 65% for lockdown. If you go on the learning centre on the home page there is very good info on hatching. I found starting out a lot of worry but once you have done a few hatches you start to find what works best for you and your incubator.

Thanks, Yorkshire Coop! I have been following the manufacturers instructions which states the temp should be 99.5. I feel horrible that these poor babies have had such a poor mommy to start. I will definately look for a hygrometer. I have been looking at the page today to learn as much as possible. I really appreciate everyone's help!

I had two incubators set upon the advice of someone that said it would make clean up easier and I wouldn't have to move the egg turner. Shat do most of you do?

Ah! Ok. Thanks for the info Yorkshire coop.

I don't, but I am not "big time production". I hatched out 2 batches this past spring and 3 chicks under a brooder. To each his/her own-right?-Whatever works.
