There is two things that caught my eye and I didn't like.
One the protein amount, to a layer feed should be at least 16% protein and if your feeding treats (scratch, table scraps etc.) they should be on at least a 18% feed.
The other thing I saw was that there animal proteins was very low on the list, that means that they use less animal proteins than any thing listed before it. I like to see animal proteins at the top of the list, at least in the top 8 ingredients.
i normally feed this chow from the mill, i noticed a few months ago my egg production had been dropping (blaming it on the heat) didn't think much of it, once i called the mill and they let me know they just changed the formula yet again, now i clearly want to add something to give them more protein, (i do give treats mainly fresh fruit) so i have been bouncing the idea back and forth between adding "Purina game bird chow" << 30 min % protein or "Purina game fish food" <<32% protein min
.
How much to mix it with the normal "Syfrett" layer pellets i have no idea, but i would start small i don't want to over power them but i do agree they do need more protein. what do you think?
I've use both the game bird starter and the fish chow in the past and there good feeds.
If you just want to boost the proteins of the syfrett you could go 30% game bird feed and 70% syfrett, that would give you a feed right around 20% protein.
My name is Charles Syfrett. I am the Operations manager for Syfrett Feed Co. Inc. The ration is actually 16.5% protein.
The tag only guarantees 15%. I'm upgrading my tag software TODAY. The tag will then reflect the 16% protein. NEVER mix two types of complete feeds. The mineral & vitamin contents of any feed vary and are species specific. Mixing two types of complete feeds can create a mineral or vitamin imbalance. Thus can create many antagonistic relationships resulting in your birds not receiving the mineral and vitamins they require. We strive to maintain the same ingredients in every ton of feed mixed. The reality is we are the southernmost feed mill in the US and availability of feedstuffs is sometimes an issue. We also manufacture an economical feed for our customers & the ingredients do change with season & production cycles. This happens everywhere in the world. Thanks for your business & we appreciate your support!
