Can anyone sex this duck from this picture? age is unknown. I found out that a local wildlife rehab place has 4 domestic ducks come in injured for one thing or another and they are now looking for homes. They thought they had 4 females but had their "waterfowl" guy come in and check them out and he said they are all drakes. I want to adopt them but don't want drakes since i will eventually be housing them with my chickens.

Unfortunately the pekin can't be sexed from the pic since the tail isn't visible?

Any help would be appreciated!

I just read it but most of the pictures wont show up.

But it doesn't really help me anyways since I've never seen the ducks and can't do any of that myself as they are still at the wildlife rehab.

oh well, looks like I will take their word for it. Hopefully these guys find a good home.

Thanks for the reply

Yes the Rouen Duck looks to be a drake, Is he quaking? Anyway his yellow/green bill is a quick way too tell if he is a "He" So I think he's a he.. I can post some pics of my female Rouen's and they have a orange spotted bill.. If you want some pics I can do it later today:)

thanks farm316!

I have no idea if he's quacking...I've only seen pictures of a few of the ducks they have and the information I get from the staff at the wildlife centre is sporadic at best...they are pretty busy taking care of the rest of the animals they have.

no need to post pics but thanks for the offer!

I'm not picky on the breed. I was going to just get ducklings at the feed store but then I saw these guys needing a home so I thought I would offer to take them. I do want females only though, only because I will eventually be housing them with my chickens and don't want the drakes to cause problems if they get the urge to mate.

Thats a good Idea, remember to house your ducklings in a cage away from your hens, (If you do get ducklings) Now if you want to get them somewhere else Metzerfarms.com does do hatchery's for all different types of breeds (Ducklings) If not then get them at your feed store, will this be your first time owning a duck?

Yes it will be the first time with ducks...but they are too adorable and I can't resist! I've done a lot of reading on here about them so I feel I'm prepared and beyond excited! :)

the feed stores in my area only sell Pekin or Rouen. I would be interested in other breeds from Metzer but I live in Canada and I'm just concerned about shipment. I would feel awful if I lost any during shipment.

Yes, You wouldn't want them to get lost in shipments. Ducks are soooo messy. Do you want eggs from your females??
