My Golden Comet is about 3-4yrs old & neither she nor my Silver Wyndotte (same age) has laid in a month. I thought this was due to stress caused by my neighbor dog-sitting (though my Arcana is laying fine). Anyway, I returned home today to find my Golden Comet is barely walking - takes a few steps and plops. Her vent looks clean. She ran for salmon, but sat to eat it. Her tail hangs low when she wobbles, which is new. I've separated her & brought her inside. Fed her some frozen strawberries and used a dropper to give her some water (with little garlic oil). I'm afraid the Silver Wyndotte is next...anyone know what's wrong our what I should do? THANKS!

She could possibly be showing some signs of internal laying or egg yolk peritonitis. But just in case check inside her vent 1-2 inches with a gloved finger for a stuck egg.

I checked 1-2" in her vent...No egg. She's moving less today and seems to be leaning on one side. Doesn't like forced water, but doesn't seem to be drinking independently (hard to tell). Brought her some feed & she pecked at it some, but still won't get up. She feels a bit warm....fever? I'm concerned...

Thank you for this information- It has allowed me to rule out EYP. I'm still at a loss, though. The other hens appear fine, so I don't believe it contagious. A farmer at the Farmers Market believes that this is just old age and she is simply "slowing down," despite the sudden onset and symptoms of illness. She won't eat it drink, so it's just a matter of time. I'm trying my best to make her comfortable, though the whole thing is breaking my heart...
