Hi there,

We recently adopted 3 australorp chicks, i can't believe how fast they grow. We have had them for 3 weeks now and got them when they were 2.5 weeks old.

We made them a little chicken run and take them outside to enjoy the sun for a few hours and they love it. We have ordered a coop and it should be here in a few more weeks, by then they should be well and truly ready to go live outside.

G'day and welcome to the BYC flock. I have only heard GOOD things about Black Australorps and their popularity is really growing.

We have a large Australian community on BYC - always room for more. If you would like to know the news in your area you could post on "Australia, six states and one funny little island."

G'day & welcome. Glad you decided to join our flock. Black australorps are my favorite standard breed of chocolate; very hardy, calm & gentle, & the best layers of the standard, brown egg laying breeds. And what better breed for someone in Australia to raise?) please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Cheers.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome :)

We did some research before deciding what breed of chicken we would get, and found the australorps to be the friendliest and the best layers. I'm looking forward to having fresh eggs laid in my backyard :)

Oh Australorps are definitely one of the friendliest breeds! My girls are just love hounds and follow me around looking for goodies or a nice soft lap! And I had better not sit down unless I plan on staying for awhile as they will all pile on my lap. Ha! Just the sweetest things.

Enjoy your new babies and welcome to our flock!
