I have a 10 week old chicken that seems to be puffed up like a basketball. I picker her up to see if it was sour crop but her crop seems to be empty. Her tummy feels hard though and her vent is filthy. She seems lethargic but still eats and drink. She has been staying to herself as well any ideas?

Get that hen into a very warm bath ASAP! Sounds like she may very well be egg-bound. YOu need to get all that crud off her behind. Keep her standing in the bath for at LEAST 15-20 minutes. This may help her to pass the egg.

Could she have coccidiosis? Puffing up with neck drawn back into shoulders, lethargy, poor appetite, and diarrhea which soil the vent area are symptoms of coccidiosis. The treatment is Corid (amprollium) in the water for 5 days. It's in the cattle section at feed stores and TSC. Dosage of the liquid is 2 tsp, and the powder is 1.5 tsp per gallon of water--treat all chickens.

I thought it might be that too. But when I picked her up to try that bath thing she started throwing up and died in my hands. So I assume it was sour crop after all. No other birds with symptoms.

I would suspect coccidiosis as well. Birds with coccididosis sometimes drink a lot at first even if they don't eat much, it's also common for them to throw up what's in the crop, especially water, just as they die. I would treat them all with a round of Corid just to be on the safe side and prevent possible losses. If not, watch the others very closely and treat at the first sign of another slow or lethargic chick.

I'm sorry for your loss. I have never had a chicken with sour crop, which has a very sour or stinky odor when they throw up, but I have treated a few chickens sick for other reasons with slow full, puffy crops full of liquid, and many with coccidiosis birds report those findings.
