Hi! My brother is going to Paris in November (I know, bad timing for laying) and he said if I did the legwork he would be willing to hand carry hatching eggs home. Anybody know of an amazing breed that isn't in the US currently that I could bring home from
France? (I would go through all of the testing and import protocols, this isn't for smuggling, but I would prefer that they go with him rather than in a box.)
There are so many neat birds out there! If it were you...which breed would you choose? :)

I don't want to burst the bubble here, but I think your brother will not be allowed to take the eggs into the USA....better check it out to be 100% sure!

Here are some ideas, though I couldn't recommend any one. Pick one that is unique, hatch a lot and you can make a lot of money. Though this endeavor will cost a lot up front.
They may not all be available around Paris.

Perhaps a variety of Bresse that isn't in the US

I looked at the import requirements; since France is considered to be free of Newcastle disease, the eggs do not need to be quarantined for 30 days. As long as I have all the appropriate veterinary clearances and have accurately filled out the USDA import packet (which is admittedly long and involved), and he stops at point of entry to have the eggs examined by a veterinarian, I don't see why I couldn't do it that way.

The 30 day quarantine is for live birds. Eggs aren't quarantined. If a country isn't Newcastle free, live birds nor eggs are allowed entry no matter how long the quarantine.

La Gournay. Beautiful. Want. Drooool. :) Anybody know someone in France that breeds these?!

Oh, I was reading the quarantine requirements for research hatching eggs. :)
That's not me!

If you know some French, you can do a search and find farms that may raise your breed. We do the same for Penedesenca and Empordanesa breeders in Spain.

My french is very limited but I was able to find a couple of breeders. Hopefully one of them speaks French! Lol. Do you import hatching eggs or adult birds? I'm trying to get a handle on exactly what it's going to cost. It seems like the 30 day quarantine for each adult bird, plus the cost of shipping them would eat up quite a bit if you got more than two of them. :/
